Frequently-Asked Questions

Q: What is a zine?
A: zine is an independently self-published booklet/magazine filled with fan-made artworks and/or writing around a certain theme for a specific fandom. It usually comes with physical and/or digital merchandise alongside the zine.
Q: What does "for-profit" mean?
A: For-profit means that all profits earned from the zine's sales will be equally distributed between contributors and mods.
The profit portions of minors (ages 17 and under) and contributors/mods who would like to decline their profits will either be added to the profit pool or donated to charity.Q: Will this zine be digital, physical, or both?
A: With over 190+ IC Responses, this zine and its merch will be both digital and physical!

Guidelines

General Guidelines
✧ All applicants should be 16 or older by the time applications end.
✧ Applicants are allowed to apply for more than one role, but will only be accepted for one.
✧ All samples must be SFW (no explicit depictions of drugs, alcohol, violence, gore, etc).
✧ NSFW pieces are allowed in portfolios but please tag them accordingly.
✧ Applicants do not need to have previous zine experience, nor will this affect the mods’ decisions in any way. Contributors will be chosen based on the criteria stated below.
✧ Ensure that your links (personal website, Google Drive link, etc.) can be easily accessed. Please make sure to check your links in a private tab to see if they work. If we are unable to view your work, we can not consider your application.
**Page & Merch Artists Guidelines **
✧ Please provide 5-10 samples of your best work in your portfolio.
✧ You can apply for both page and merch artist positions but will be accepted for a single role only.
✧ All samples must be completed and are original pieces of work (not a sketch, WIP, etc.)
✧ Having a Genshin Impact and/or Studio Ghibli sample is highly encouraged, but not required.
✧ Artists will be judged on anatomy, composition, lighting, environment, color theory, and personal style.
✧ For page artists, at least 1 sample must provide a fully illustrated background (no flat colors, gradients, vectors, graphic design elements).
✧ For merch artists, examples of the type(s) of merch pieces you would prefer to create are encouraged.
Writers Guidelines & Criteria
✧ Please provide 3 samples of your best work that represent the style and quality of what you'd create for the zine. Additional pieces can be provided in the portfolio; mods will consider max 5 pieces for the application.
✧ 1 sample should be within 1.5k - 2k and not an excerpt.
✧ You have a maximum word count of 6.5k across all three samples, with a leeway of 100 words.
✧ At least 1 Genshin Impact and/or Studio Ghibli sample is required.
✧ All samples must be completed and are original pieces of work (not a daft, WIP, etc.)
✧ Writers will be judged on how well they can execute a story within a limited word count, grammar, syntax, flow, style, and characterization.
